Our 50th Anniversary
Founded in 1959, the Annandale Boys' and Girls' Club, Inc. soccer program was the first organized youth soccer program in the Washington, D.C. area and in the state of Virginia. The first year the four original teams played each over and over because there were no other teams to play.
Home Of 6 National Championship Teams The lack of local competition led to travel to Baltimore and later to Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, Florida, North Carolina and other states, as well as Canada and Mexico. The challenge of learning to play at increasingly higher levels led club founder, Everett Germain, to hire both professional trainers and coaches for the program. In 1976 the ABGC Cavaliers won the club's first National Title, while the Red Devils, Red Wings, Spartans, Red Flames, Spirits (G), Americans (G) and Superstars (G) all won Virginia State Championships.
Professional Player Development - Since the very early 1970's the club has offered professional training and coaching for the club's Travel Program as well as clinics and camps open to all ABGC Recreational players. In 1981 ABGC was the first club in the United States to offer an Apprenticeship soccer program to development future professional players.
Annandale takes great pride in the many thousands of players who have played in our soccer program over the last fifty years including over a thousand who have played for their high schools, hundreds who have played in college including many who have played for NCAA Division I programs and many who have participated in the USYSA Olympic Development Program at the District, State, Regional and National level.
ABGC is also extremely proud of the almost two dozen players who have gone on to play on both domestic and foreign professional teams.
ABGC counts with great pride the growing number of former players who now give back to the game as coaches, trainers and soccer program administrators not only here in Annandale but for clubs, schools, colleges and other programs nationwide.

ABGC SOCCER Programs
ABGC Recreational Soccer Program for children ages 4 to 10 (Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 4). This popular fall and spring soccer program is always a sell out. Children play on their local neighborhood / school teams with classmates and friends. In addition to practices and games, ABGC offers free skill clinics. Early registration is recommended.
ABGC Recreational SFL Soccer Program is for players ages 11 to 19 (Grades 5 to 12). Teams play in SFL (the Suburban Friendship League) against teams from other local soccer clubs. Rosters and game schedules are generated almost a month before the first games, so early registration by mid-August for the fall and mid February for the spring is mandatory.
ABGC's Developmental Soccer Program is for players U8 to U11 (Grades 3 to 5) who aspire to learn to play at progressively higher levels. Players in this program are professionally trained and coached. Players U9 to U11 play in NCSL (boys) / WAGS (girls) and play in several tournaments each season. Players play on a Club Pass and can play for any ABGC Developmental Team for which they are age qualified, including older teams, if it will benefit their individual development as a player. The number of players in this program is limited by available resources and tryouts to select additional players for this program are offered in June and November of each year.
ABGC's Competitive Travel Program is for players U12 to U19 (Grades 6 to 12) who want to play at progressively high levels. Players in this program are professionally trained and coached, play in NCSL (boys) or WAGS (girls), play for the Virginia State Cup Championship for their age group and play in three or more tournaments each season.
Most ABGC high school age travel players also play for their high schools soccer program. High school age teams also play for college coaches in college showcase tournaments. The number of players in the ABGC Travel Program is limited by available resources and tryouts to select additional players for this program are offered in June and November of each year.
Virginia Youth Soccer ODP Program is for travel players who aspire to play at a higher level and to represent ABGC and Vigrinia by trying out for and making age groups District, State, Regional and National teams. ABGC is also proud of the many VYSA ODP Program staff coaches who also coach teams in our ABGC Travel Program.
ABGC Adult Soccer Program is for adults who want to play on men's, women's or coed adult soccer teams. For information please follow the above link.
